We want to educate businesses on what various telecom terms mean so they can fully understand the ins and outs of the industry and where their business fits in. Today, we're talking carriers!
First, let's cover the basics.
Any business authorized to operate a telecom network is considered a carrier. A telephone carrier is the piece of the equation that makes it possible to connect phone calls. Without the carrier, there is no connection on the line. This leads us to our next introduction - the service provider!
A service provider is a component most people are more familiar with - they're the ones who sell the service to consumers and businesses, such as Verizon or AT&T, among others. This is who consumers maintain a contract with, and gain access to products and features along with their service. Some companies have been around since the 1800s when telephony was born.
In addition to their standard offerings, carriers can offer IT support, provide telephony and business guidance, and give you expert consultation on what your organization needs, just to name a few. They can also monitor your expenses and advise on costs related to telecom services and needs.
Redundancy
In telecom, redundancy refers to the components of a network (servers, operating systems, etc.) that serve as backup should the primary resource fail for any reason. Redundancy is basically a Plan B for businesses when/ if Plan A fails.
Customer Support
Whether on the phone or online, it's never been easier or faster to resolve customer issues, build rapport, and provide assistance and guidance efficiently. Without these capabilities, a company's customer experience would be less than ideal in the digital age we live in.
Better Communication
With improved communication comes more collaboration which facilitates productivity, agility, and more. Because carriers promote the use of telephones and computers, along with the entire mobile sector (tablets and smartphones) to increase productivity on the go. When teams are located nationally or globally, carriers provide access for teams to collaborate with ease.
